Vol. 28 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition and Division of Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries when it is intended to divide the lands of Killer and Fonagh, Ballintubber, Co. Roscommon, held by Mr. William Glover, amongst the congested tenants in the district.

The Commissioners have had the lands of Fohanagh More and Killerr inspected and the matter is still under consideration.

I should like to inform the Minister that there is much dissatisfaction with regard to the way that the Land Commission is dealing with this man's property. There is a suspicion in Roscommon —Deputy Brennan can bear me out in this—that there is some underhand influence being exercised by Mr. Glover. The people believe the Land Commission is not in earnest. I hope they will shortly get a move on and get the land distributed.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he is yet in a position to state when the lands at Lumclone, Fenagh, Co. Carlow, on the Whitecroft estate, will be divided.

The lands of Lumclone, comprising 98 acres, have been published in a provisional list of lands which will vest in the Land Commission on the appointed day unless excluded in consequence of a valid objection, and an offer for the purchase of the lands has been communicated to the owners.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether the Land Commission have inspected the 148 acres of land at Ballyellen, Co. Carlow, owned by Mr. Robert Thorp, Kilgraney, Bagenalstown, as to their suitability for division amongst the people of the locality.

The Land Commission are unable to identify any portion of the lands of Ballyellen, Co. Carlow, as owned by Mr. Thorp.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he can state when it is intended to acquire the lands known as Kileumney, Co. Carlow, owned by the Land Bank, Dublin, for division amongst the people of the locality.

I am in communication with the Minister for Finance concerning the acquisition of the lands in question, and I hope to be in a position to announce the intention of the Land Commission shortly.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he is aware that applications, with a list of names, were sent to the Land Commission to have the following lands inspected with a view to their acquisition and distribution amongst uneconomic holders and landless men in the following places:—130 acres at Cloneen, Agha, Co. Carlow, owned by Mr. Griffin, Newtown, Bagenalstown; 90 acres at Kilmaglin, Fenagh, owned by Mr. W. Young, Kilcarrig, Bagenalstown; 60 acres in Kilconner, Fenagh, owned by Miss Corrigan, Fenagh; and 63 acres at Lumclone Hill, Fenagh, owned by Mr. P. O'Connell, Lacken, Borris, all in Co. Carlow, and under grass; and whether the Minister can state what progress, if any, has been made with regard to these holdings.

The application referred to was received and considered. The Land Commission do not propose to acquire the lands mentioned.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether it is the intention of the Land Commission to acquire the Corrawallion Bog, on the Kiernan and Godley Estates, Drumreilly Upper, Co. Leitrim, comprising about 30 acres, to provide turbary for about one hundred and fifty tenants in the neighbourhood; and, if so, whether the work of draining and dividing this bog will be commenced during the coming season.

the Commissioners have not had under consideration the acquisition of Corrawallion Bog, but the matter will be considered.
