Vol. 29 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Expenditure by City Commissioners.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that the Dublin City Commissioners propose to spend £13,000 erecting an island with seats and shrubs in Lower Baggot Street, and if, in view of the fact that Lower Baggot Street is situated close to some of the worst slums in Dublin, he will make representations to the Commissioners to abandon their scheme, and devote the money instead to the erection of suitable dwellings in those slum areas.

The Deputy's question is based upon a misapprehension, the fact being that the provision of the island, together with seats and shrubs, saves the expenditure of a sum of £160 which would otherwise be necessary in connection with the road improvements which are being carried out at Lower Baggot Street.
