Vol. 29 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Precautions Against Smallpox.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware that a serious outbreak of smallpox has occurred in England and that the disease is still spreading there, and whether he will state the precautions that are being taken to safeguard the people of this country from infection, in view of the close inter-communication between Ireland and England.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. As regards the second part, I would refer the Deputy to pages 29 and 30 of the First Report of the Department of Local Government and Public Health.

Will the Minister state what steps are being taken to deal with contacts?

That does not quite follow from the question here, and I would prefer if the Deputy would put down a separate question to the Minister on the matter.

He is not here to answer it and this is a very serious matter.
