Vol. 29 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Damage to Kerry Pier.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he is aware that much damage is being done by the action of the sea to the pier at Kilkeaveragh, Caherciveen, Co. Kerry, and whether, considering that this pier is almost indispensable to the fishermen and small farmers of the locality, he will take steps to save it from further erosion and put it into such a state of repair as will meet the needs of those who require it.

The estimated cost of putting the pier at Kilkeaveragh in a reasonably sound state and extending it sufficiently to deep water to serve the fishing boats would be £2,000. I am, therefore, unable at present to consider making any representations for a grant from State funds, having regard to the limited possibilities of fishery development at the place and as the funds available for works of this nature are very restricted.
