Vol. 31 No. 3

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take the business as arranged on the Order Paper. Deputy Anthony has asked for facilities in connection with the Second Stage of the Intoxicating Liquor (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill, 1929, and also the remaining stages, and I propose to grant those facilities.

What are the Minister's intentions with regard to the Dublin City and County (Relief of the Poor) Bill, 1929, from the Seanad?

I propose to recommend the acceptance of this Bill by the Dáil, and I intend to take the Second Reading of the Bill on Wednesday next. The subject-matter of this Bill has been having the consideration of my Department. Certain changes in the administration of poor relief will be necessary; it is felt that certain changes are necessary in Dublin City. The consideration that is being given to the matter has not been completed yet. In the circumstances I intend to ask the House to accept the Bill. There will be an opportunity of considering the matter further. I think it will be found when we have finished the Second Stage that the Bill will be acceptable to all sides of the House, and I hope that it will be possible to get the remaining stages passed forthwith once the Second Reading has been concluded.

Do I understand that proposals are at present under consideration in the Department different to the proposals contained in the Bill for the better administration of poor relief in Dublin City and County?

Final conclusions have not been come to. When we have come to final conclusions in the matter there might be certain differences. I am not prepared to say at present that there will be.

The Minister will not take the passage of the Bill as an excuse for failing to continue his investigations into the matter?

No; I never stop thinking.

The Minister proposes to take the Bill on Wednesday and to ask that the remaining stages be also taken on that day.
