Vol. 31 No. 5

Bills from the Seanad.

The Seanad has passed the Railways (Amendment) Bill, 1929, without amendment. It has passed the Intoxicating Liquor (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill, 1929, with amendments. The Intoxicating Liquor (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill, 1929, was a Bill entitled "An Act to amend the Intoxicating Liquor Act, 1927, in relation to the sale of intoxicating liquor in the County Borough of Cork on Sunday, the 14th, and Sunday, the 21st day of July, 1929." The Seanad have deleted the words and figures "and Sunday, the 21st" from the title and from Section 1 of the Bill, thus in effect making the Bill apply to one Sunday only, Sunday, the 14th July.

I accept the Bill in its amended form, but I do so under protest. The popular House passed this Bill, and the Second Chamber turned it down, one of the biggest arguments we can have against a Second Chamber.
