Vol. 31 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Storage of Petrol.

asked the Minister for Justice whether any regulations have been made by his Department governing the amount of petrol which may be stored in garages, etc., situated in thickly-populated areas; and, if not, and whether, having regard to the fact that in a recent Dublin garage fire 500 gallons of petrol narrowly escaped ignition, he will take steps to limit the quantity of petrol which may be stored in such places.

Under the regulations made in July, 1907, petrol for use in light locomotives and not for sale may be kept without a licence in quantities not exceeding 60 gallons. In other cases a licence is required under the Petroleum Acts, 1871 and 1879. In granting such licences the local authority has regard to the quantity to be kept, the mode of storage, and the suitability of the premises.
