Vol. 32 No. 1

Written Answers. - Co. Mayo Untenanted Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he is aware that acute congestion exists in the townlands of Rathgranagher, Thomastown, Davris, and Roose, in the parish of Kilcommon, and if he will state what. steps, if any, are being taken by the Irish Land Commission to acquire the large untenanted grazing ranch on the De Clifford estate held by Mr. R.T. Crawford at Greaghans, Hollymount, Co. Mayo.

Proceedings were instituted under the provisions of the Land Act, 1923, for the acquisition of the lands of Greaghans, containing 163a. 1r. 26p., in the occupation of R.T. Crawford. These lands were published in a provisional list of lands which, if not excluded in consequence of a valid objection, will become vested in the Land Commission on the appointed day.

These lands are subject to a Land Purchase annuity, and the owner's objection to their acquisition is pending before the Land Commission.

Congestion in the neighbourhood has already been relieved by the acquisition and distribution of some 117 acres of the lands of Greaghans acquired from James Brannick.
