Vol. 32 No. 11

Written Answers. - Division of Westmeath Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state when it is expected to take over and divide the Pilkington estate, Fore, Tyrellspass, County Westmeath, amongst the uneconomic landholders and landless persons in that area.

Proceedings under the Land Act, 1923, are in progress for the acquisition of 458 acres of turbary on the townland of Rathgarrett the price of which has been determined and a scheme for the division of the turbary is in course of preparation. The purchase proceedings in respect of the tenanted lands on this estate have been completed and the holdings vested in the tenants save in respect of the holding of Henry J. McKenna containing about 247 acres of the lands of Rathgarrett which has been declared a retained holding under Section 28 (6) of the Act. The Land Commission have under consideration what action they will take as regards these retained lands.
