Vol. 32 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral—Answers. - Navan Housing Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he will state the reasons for his refusal to allow the Navan Urban District Council to proceed with the building of 24 houses on land bought by the council at New Road, Navan; and whether he is aware that if the erection of these houses had been allowed to proceed, much needed employment would have been given to a number of unemployed during this winter.

I did not refuse to allow the Navan Urban District Council to proceed with the erection of 24 houses on land at New Road. Objections by local residents to the acquisition of the land for the erection of working class houses were brought to the notice of the council and the proposal was abandoned. The council are at present building 5 cottages and have taken the preliminary steps to acquire land for a further scheme. The second part of the question does not accordingly arise.
