Vol. 32 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Acquisition of Lands and Relief of Congestion in Mayo.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state when the Land Commission propose to take over the lands known as the Ardkill Farm, McCormick estate, Kilcommon district, Co. Mayo; and if he will state what steps are being taken to relieve the acute congestion existing in this area.

Proceedings have been instituted under the provisions of the Land Act, 1923, for the acquisition of the lands of Ardkill, containing 120a. 3r. 16p., for the relief of congestion in this area, but as the price of these lands has not yet been determined, the Land Commission are not in a position to state when they will be taken over and divided.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state when the lands known as the Clemens estate will be finally dealt with by the Land Commission, and if he will state what steps are being taken by the Land Commission to relieve the congestion existing in the area of this estate, Derrypark, Tourmakeady, Co. Mayo.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state when the lands known as the Sligo estate, Purranes district, Hollymount, Co. Mayo, will be finally settled by the Land Commission; and if he will also state what steps are being taken by the Land Commission to deal with the very acute congestion existing in this area.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he will state when the lands known as the Miss A.C.E. Brown estate will be distributed by the Land Commission, and when their holdings will become vested in the tenants.

I regret that the notice given of these questions was not sufficient to enable me to procure the desired information. The local inspector has been communicated with in regard to the three estates and when his reply has been received I will write to the Deputy.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he will state if the Land Commission propose to take over for the relieving of congestion the lands known as Waterford Farm, held by Mr. James O'Donnell, Waterford, Newbrook, Co. Mayo, and whether he will state what steps are being taken to relieve the acute congestion existing in the area.

The Land Commission have made enquiries regarding the lands of Lissaniska (known as Waterford Farm) the property of James Myles O'Donnell, and they do not propose to take any action towards acquisition, as they appear to come under the exceptions of Section 24 (2) of the Land Act 1923, being subject already to L.P.A.

The Land Commission have made an offer, which has been accepted, for the lands of Togher (in the same locality) the property of Mr. A.J.J. Algie, and a scheme for the distribution of these lands is in course of preparation. It is anticipated that the division of these lands will relieve local congestion.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state when the Land Commission propose to take over the lands known as the Valentine Blake and Sebastian Nolan estates, for the purpose of relieving the acute congestion existing in the townland of Islandmore, the Neale, Co. Mayo, and other neighbouring townlands.

The estate referred to comprises a holding containing 285a. 2r. 36p., situate in the townlands of Illanmore and Knocknapisha, partly in the occupation of Valentine J. Blake and partly in the occupation of 18 sub-tenants. The estate is being dealt with under the Land Act, 1923, and the question of the retention of the portion of the lands in the owner's exclusive occupation, with a view to resumption for the relief of congestion, will be considered by the Land Commission in due course.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he will state if any steps are being taken by the Land Commission to distribute the lands known as the G.H. `Acton estate; when will the Land Commission take steps to relieve the congestion existing on this estate, and in the Belcarra area, in which this estate is situate.

A scheme for the division and allotment of the Acton estate has been prepared. It is expected that the distribution of the lands will take place at an early date. The matter is receiving all possible attention.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state (a) when the Land Commission propose to take over the lands known as the Frenchgrove Farm for the relief of congestion; and (b) if he will state what steps are being taken to acquire the lands known as the estate of Francis Joseph Eager, Hollymount district, Co. Mayo.

(a) The lands of Frenchgrove referred to appear to be a holding of 212a 3r. 2p., held by James Joseph Hession and Annie Fitzpatrick (wife of Patrick Fitzpatrick) as joint tenants on the estate of Francis J.M. Eager. This holding will be retained by the Land Commission under Section 28 (6) of the Land Act, 1923, and the Land Commission propose to apply to the Judicial Commissioner for an order authorising them to resume the lands. (b) The proceedings in the Land Commission for the vesting of holdings on the estate of Francis J. M. Eager, to which the question appears to refer, are being carried on as expeditiously as possible.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state when the Land Commission propose to complete the sale agreements of the tenants on the Ruttledge Fair estate, Hollymount district, Co. Mayo, and if he will state when the tenants will become the vested owners of their holdings.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether the Land Commission propose to take over the lands known as the Luke MacDermott Farm, Knox estate, Friarsquarter, Ballinrobe, for the purpose of relieving congestion in the area.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state when the Land Commission propose to complete the distribution of the Fitzgerald-Kenney estate, and if he will state what steps are being taken by the Land Commission to relieve the acute congestion existing in the townlands of Newtown Drum, and surrounding villages in the Clogher district, Castlebar, Co. Mayo.

These questions were received too late to enable replies to be prepared. I shall communicate with the Deputy later.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state when the Land Commission propose to distribute the lands known as the O'Connor-Lease portion of the Lynch-Blosse estate, Balla district, Co. Mayo; if he will state what steps are being taken to relieve the congestion existing on this estate.

Arrangements are being made to deal with the lands referred to as rapidly as possible, but it is not at present possible to say when they will be distributed.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state when the Land Commission propose to take over the lands known as the Stanhope Kenny estate, Ballinrobe district, Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo.

It has not been possible from the particulars given in the Question to identify the particular lands referred to. Perhaps the Deputy would supply further information to enable them to be identified.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state when the Land Commission propose to distribute the lands known as the Morency estate, Cloongowlah, Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo; if he will state what steps are being taken by the Land Commission to relieve congestion in this area.

For the purpose of relieving the congestion on the Montmorency estate at Cloongowla the Land Commission have allotted parcels on the estate of Col. H.H.C. Knox to three tenants on the Montmorency estate in exchange for their three holdings comprising some 60 acres, but until the Land Commission are dealing with the Montmorency estate it will not be possible to complete the exchanges.
