Vol. 33 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Westmeath Land Division.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state for what reasons farms of 100-300 acres were given to certain individuals on the estates situated at Ballinlough, Heathstown and Lisclogher, Co. Westmeath.

On the lands of Heathstown—estate of Capt. R.S.V. Dyas, Co. Westmeath, a holding comprising an area of 274 acres or thereabouts is being allotted to a migrant in exchange for a holding in his occupation in Co. Mayo, comprising an area of 297a. 2r. 0p., which is required for the relief of local congestion.

On the lands of Ballinlough— estate of Mrs. Anna M. Nugent, Co. Westmeath, the house division, comprising an area of 226 acres, or thereabouts, is being allotted to a son of the former owner who is engaged in the rearing of blood stock, and has been carrying on the industry to a limited extent on these lands. He now proposes to establish a permanent stud farm thereon.

On the lands of Lisclogher Great, being the resumed holding of F.A. Evans, a holding of 381 acres was given to Mr. J.E. Kelly, from whom the Land Commission have acquired his demesne lands of Johnstown Demesne, at Cornafulla, Co. Roscommon, containing 356 acres, together with 470 acres of bog. The lands acquired from Mr. Kelly are much needed for the relief of congestion and very considerable benefit will result from their division.
