Vol. 33 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tree Planting on Wexford Mountain.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is now in a position to state when the planting of the Mountain of Forth, Co Wexford, will be commenced.

Mr. Hogan

As intimated in previous replies on this matter, the proposed planting of Forth Mountain by the State could not be commenced until the land had been acquired, nor could proceedings for the compulsory acquisition of the rights held over this land be carried out until the coming into operation by Order of the Forestry Act. That Act will come into operation on 1st April next, and as soon after that date as the Rules to be made by the Land Commissioners under Section 3 (7) of the Act are available, steps will be taken for the acquisition of suitable portions of the Forth Mountain for afforestation purposes.
