Vol. 33 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Compound Feeding Stuffs.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether in view of the enormous imports of compound feeding stuffs into the Saorstát he intends to amend the Fertilizers and Feeding Stuffs Act with a view to safeguarding the interests of the purchaser.

Mr. Hogan

The question of the amendment of the Act referred to has been engaging attention, and it is my intention to introduce a Bill at a convenient opportunity for the further safeguarding of the consumer. I may add that the imports of compound feeding stuffs into the Saorstát are only about one-fourth to one-fifth of the total volume of the oil-seed cakes and meals and other foods of vegetable origin imported for the feeding of animals. Imports of "other foods of vegetable origin," in which classification compound feeding stuffs are included, show a decrease in 1929 as compared with the two previous years.
