Vol. 33 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Farranfore (Co. Kerry) Incident.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that recently a raid was carried out by a Superintendent of the Gárda Síochána on the house occupied by Mr. John Walsh, Lyre, Farranfore, Kerry; that a note-book containing the names of those who subscribed to the Dáil Eireann Loan (1920) in the parish of Currow was taken from the house; that this note-book was returned on February 4th, 1930, by a Gárda sergeant stationed at Tralee; that when examined by Mr. Walsh on that date it was discovered that several leaves containing the names and amounts subscribed to the Dáil Eireann Loan were missing, and will the Minister now give an assurance that these leaves will be returned, as they are essential to the completion of refund of Dáil Eireann Loan (1920) for Currow Parish.

The house of Mr. John Walsh, Lyre, Farranfore, County Kerry, was scarched on the 20th December last for firearms under the authority of a scarch warrant duly issued. In the course of the search a list of names was found which at the time it was believed had relation to an illegal organisation engaged in procuring firearms for unlawful purposes and the list was accordingly taken for examination. The note-book containing the list was returned on the 4th instant as the Gárda Síochána were then satisfied that it was not of the character originally suspected. The note-book was returned to Mr. Walsh in exactly the same condition in which it was when first taken. The suggestion that the police were in any way responsible for abstracting any of the leaves from the note-book is unfounded.
