Vol. 36 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballyphilip (Co. Tipperary) Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he has taken any, and, if so, what action, regarding the lands of Ballyphilip (near Killenaule), County Tipperary, on the old Going Estate, non-resident lands, now held by Messrs. W.P. Hanley, Lanespark, Thurles, who have extensive ranches; whether he is aware that this extensive tract of land gives practically no employment, and that it is very much required for distribution among local uneconomic holders and landless men of the district.

The Land Commission have still under consideration the question of the acquisition of the lands of Ballyphilip, formerly the property of the late Mr. E.A. Hughes. The circumstances of the lands are being fully investigated, but it is not possible at this stage to state whether the lands will be acquired.

Is it a fact that there was an inspector sent down and that he reported favourably on this case— that is, to the effect that there was congestion in the area?

The inspector reported on these lands quite recently. I do not know whether the report has reached the office or not. As a matter of fact, I do not think it has.
