(An Clár) asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state (a) by what amount the Unemployment Insurance Fund was in debt on March 31st, 1930, and by what amount was it in debt on October 31st, 1930; and (b) also if he will state how many claims for unemployment insurance benefit were rejected for the years 1928-29 and 1929-30 on the grounds that the applicants were not unemployed according to certain sections of the Unemployment Insurance Acts.

(a) On the 31st March, 1930, the amount by which the Unemployment Fund was in debt was, £562,935 and on the 31st October, 1930. the amount was £381,622: (b) the number of claims disallowed on the ground that the claimants were not unemployed within the meaning of the Unemployment Insurance Acts is not available for financial years, but for the calendar years 1928, 1929 and 1930 (to date) was 294, 224 and 155 respectively.
