Vol. 36 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Flour-milling in Saorstát.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state (a) the quantity of flour milled in Saorstát Eireann during the nine months, January to September, 1930, and during the corresponding period in 1928 and 1929; (b) the number of workers employed in flour-milling in Saorstát Eireann on January 1st, April 1st, June 1st and October 1st, 1930, or at the nearest dates thereto for which figures are available, and at the corresponding dates in 1928 and 1929; and (c) the number of flour-mill workers registered as unemployed on the same dates.

I am only able to answer part (c) of this question. Particulars of production and employment in the flour mills are available only for 1926, and were published in a report of the Census of Production in that year. Similar particulars have been obtained for 1929, but are not yet ready for publication.

The numbers of flour and grain mill workers registered as unemployed, giving figures for the nearest available dates, are as follows:—
