Vol. 36 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment in Bray.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he has received any representation from the Commissioner of Bray Urban Council regarding acute unemployment in the township, and whether he is prepared to give favourable consideration to useful schemes of work which may be submitted to him, with a view to relieving the distress that exists there consequent on unemployment.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. Any proposals for relief works received from the local authority will be duly considered.

Is the Minister aware that a deputation representing 250 men waited on the Commissioner to-day in reference to schemes such as road repairs, sewerage work, and housing in Little Bray, and that if the Minister makes it a condition that an equal amount must be raised locally, the Commissioner has no hope of giving any immediate relief to the unemployed in Bray area owing to the financial condition of the Bray Urban Council?
