Vol. 36 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Queen Victoria Statue—Query re Removal Of.

Tomás O Maoláin

asked the Minister for Finance whether it is intended to remove the Queen Victoria statue from the front of Leinster House; and, if so, if he can indicate when the work will be commenced.

The statue in question is not regarded as a valuable or attractive work of art; nevertheless, it is not thought that its effect on popular taste is so debasing as to necessitate the expenditure of public funds on its removal.

Would the Minister consider utilising some of the £300,000 for the purpose?

No, we can spend it in a better way.
