Vol. 37 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Board of Health Works—Leix and Offaly.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he can furnish particulars of the estimated cost of works proposed to be carried out by the Boards of Health of the Counties—(1) Leix, (2) Offaly, for which grants have been applied for out of the Relief Schemes Vote, and also particulars of the amounts already sanctioned by his Department in each case.

Five public health works were proposed by the Laoighis Board of Health and Public Assistance at an estimated cost of £29,861 9s. 3d. The works included sewerage schemes for Mountrath and Mountmellick and the Board of Health were notified that it was not considered desirable to proceed with sewerage schemes until gravitation water supplies had been installed.

In connection with water supply schemes for Mountrath and Ballinakill, the Board of Health have been negotiating for the acquisition of the necessary lands and water rights by agreement. An intimation was received yesterday that full agreement had been reached in the case of the Mountrath scheme, and the Department are notifying the Board of Health to-day that arrangements may now be made to proceed with the work. A grant of £2,000 has been allocated.

The Offaly Board of Health at their meeting on the 30th December, 1930, adopted six minor works. The estimated cost of the works was £7 10/-; £70; £75; £120; £25, and £40.

The Board of Health were notified on the 10th January, 1931, that minor works of this nature were not regarded as suitable works to which an allocation from Relief Funds could be made and that the Board should defray the expenditure out of their own funds.
