Vol. 37 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish House, Tipperary.

asked the President whether he has refused to meet a deputation from the South Tipperary Vocational Education Committee to discuss the matter of the Irish House, Tipperary; whether he gave an undertaking in 1927 that if a business proposition in connection with the Irish House were put before him he would give the matter his closest and most sympathetic consideration, and, if so, whether he will state the reasons for his refusal to receive the deputation.

Some years ago a deputation mentioned to me the question of the compensation awarded in respect of the Irish House, Tipperary, and I indicated that I would be prepared to give consideration to any suitable proposal that might be submitted to me. I was recently requested to receive a deputation to discuss a proposal which I learned could not be accepted by the Minister for Finance. In the circumstances it seemed to me that it would be quite unfair to put a local deputation to the trouble and expense of coming to Dublin to discuss the matter.
