Vol. 37 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pier at Inisfree (Co. Donegal).

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he can state whether any consideration has yet been given to the question of allocating (out of the Relief Grant) the sum of £400 for the construction or repairing of the Pier and Harbour on Inisfree Island, Co. Donegal.

It is not proposed to undertake this work out of the Relief Vote.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that the information which I got from the Department dealing with the relief grants was to the effect that the question of allocating money for a pier at Inisfree was under consideration? Further, in view of the fact that money had already been granted for that purpose in 1924, does the Parliamentary Secretary not consider that it is only reasonable that such money should be expended out of the relief grant?

I think that I explained to the Deputy in December last that the island of Inisfree is included in the Conygham estate, which has not yet been vested in the tenants. It is an estate improvement work, and will be undertaken at a later date.

How is the question related to the vesting of the estate?

This is a non-vested estate, and the expenditure of this money is confined entirely to vested estates.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary say when the work will be commenced?
