Vol. 37 No. 17

Written Answers. - Acquisition of Hollymount and Lehinch Lands (Mayo).

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state what is the present position of the proceedings which are being taken by the Irish Land Commission in the acquisition of the lands of Hollymount and Lehinch, held by Messrs. McCartan Brothers; and if he will state the cause of delay in taking over possession of those lands.

The owner of the lands of Lehinch Demesne and Hollymount Demesne has agreed to accept the price fixed by the Land Commission, and a scheme for the division of the lands is in course of preparation. The Land Commission are not aware that there has been any avoidable delay in connection with the acquisition of these lands. As the Deputy has already been informed, the owner objected to the acquisition of these lands and exercised his right to have alternative lands provided, and the negotiations for the acquisition of these lands were only completed at a recent date.
