Vol. 38 No. 5

Written Answers. - Relieving Congestion in Mayo.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state what progress has been made towards acquiring the lands of John Byrne (S.6824) and Reps. William G. O'Malley (S.6832), of Ballaburke, Co. Mayo, and Peter J. O'Malley and Another (S.6822), of Killawullaun W., Co. Mayo, for the purpose of relieving the very acute congestion which exists in the townland of Devlish West, Ayle, Westport, Co. Mayo.

As the Deputy has already been informed, the Land Commission have taken proceedings under Section 24 (3) of the Land Act, 1923, for the acquisition of these holdings, which have been purchased under the Land Purchase Acts. The owners have since made applications under Section 24 (4) requiring the Land Commission to provide them with alternative lands, but no lands are at present available which can be offered them in exchange.
