Vol. 38 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Loans to Kerry Fishermen.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he will state the number of applications received from County Kerry by his Department for loans to enable fishermen to purchase boats, gear or engines since 1st February last; and how many of these applications have been favourably considered, and in how many of these cases have loans been already granted.

Sixteen applications for fishery loans were received by my Department since 1st February last. One loan has been granted. The remaining fifteen applications have been referred to the Sea Fisheries' Association of Saorstát Eireann, Limited, by which body such loans will be issued in future.

Can the Minister state when this body is likely to be in full operation in regard to the granting of loans?

As far as I can gather there were meetings yesterday and today, and it will be in a position to deal with loans during the present month.
