Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Lewis Estate (Co. Galway).

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he will give the following particulars:—(1) the exact date on which James Dwyer of Lowertown, Woodford, refused the terms offered him by the Irish Land Commission regarding holding No. 57, J. A. Lewis Estate, Co. Galway (Record No. S.1990), and what those terms were; (2) the rent, as set out in the schedule of particulars; (3) the annuity, as fixed by the Land Commission; and (4) the amount of compensation awarded to the existing tenant (Mr. W. J. Farran) under the resumption proceedings.

(1) Mr. James Dwyer has on more than one occasion reiterated to a Land Commission Inspector his refusal to accept an allotment of the lands of Alleendorra West on the retained holding of Mr. W. J. Farran on the Lewis Estate, Co. Galway, except on his own terms, to which the Land Commission could not accede. The Land Commission were prepared to offer him an allotment on the terms that he should sign an agreement to purchase at the price of £190, with certain reservations as to turbary; (2) the former rent of the holding was £5 14s.; (3) the annuity at 4¾ per cent. on a purchase price of £190 would be £9 0s. 6d.; (4) the amount of compensation awarded to Mr. Farran for the resumption of his holding was £127.
