Vol. 38 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Relief Works in Cape Clear.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he is aware of the unsatisfactory conditions prevailing in Cape Clear, Co. Cork; if he is further aware that no improvement works were, in pursuance of the allocation of the recent grant, initiated on the island, and if he is prepared to consider the claims of the residents favourably and sanction some proposals already submitted.

It was not found possible to undertake any works at Cape Clear out of funds provided for expenditure by the Land Commission out of the Vote for the relief of unemployment and distress. Cape Clear is included in the Beecher Estate (S. 4329), which is pending for sale under the Land Act, 1923, and the sum of £295 was expended in the year 1929 on a road on the island. When the estate has been inspected in due course the question of any further expenditure that may be found necessary on improvement works will be considered.
