Vol. 38 No. 20

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Subsidy to Newspaper for Printing Irish Matter.

asked the Minister for Finance to state the amount of the subsidy paid out of the moneys voted for stationery and printing to the "Connacht Tribune" in 1930-31, and the number of columns of Irish printed in that paper during that year in excess of one and one-half columns weekly.

The scheme came into operation only on 1st September, 1930. The amount paid to the Connacht Tribune Co. in respect of the seven months ending 31st March last totalled £84 15s. 0d. The number of columns of Irish in excess of 1½ per week printed in the company's papers during the period was 56½.

Can the Minister state if the subsidy is calculated on the amount of Irish printed in each issue, or is there a certain amount paid each year?

Each issue.
