asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state (a) the total number of persons employed in Saorstát woollen mills before the imposition of the tariff on woollens; (b) the number at present engaged in the woollen-making industry; and if he can state the numbers employed at the various individual woollen mills before and after the imposition of the tariff.

A return, showing the number of persons employed in the protected industries at various dates up to the 1st March, 1931, was laid on the Table of the Dáil on the 29th May, which gives the information required at (a) and (b) of the Deputy's question. I do not feel at liberty to publish particulars relating to each individual woollen mill.
