Vol. 40 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kildare Bogs.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state what action the Land Commission intends to take on a resolution received from Kildare County Council, urging the absolute necessity of acquiring, draining and otherwise developing the bogs of the county in the interest of a large number of uneconomic holders, who are dependent on the sale of turf for a livelihood and are now nearly destitute.

The powers of the Land Commission to expend money on improvements are confined to expenditure on the improvement of lands purchased by them under the Land Purchase Acts. As lands in Co. Kildare which contain bogs are acquired by the Land Commission any improvements necessary will be carried out.

Will they be carried out immediately?

In due course.
