Vol. 40 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Vesting of Land.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he is in a position to state what progress has been made in connection with the vesting of land since the passing of the Land Act, 1931.

Excellent progress has been made in respect of the vesting of tenanted land under the Land Act, 1931. With the exception of a few cases held over on account of special difficulties or because the necessary particulars have not yet been obtained, the holdings coming under the Land Act, 1923, are now vested in the Land Commission and the tenants placed on an annuity basis as from the Appointed Day. The Appointed Day has been fixed as the 1st May, 1931, for nearly 75,000 holdings and the 1st November, 1931, for some 4,500 holdings, making a total of some 79,000 holdings, involving 4,990 estates, or portions of estates, and representing a total purchase price of approximately £13,890,000 of Land Bonds.

These figures represent only the vesting of holdings under Section 9 of the Land Act, 1931, and are without reference to the publication of lists of congested districts holdings under Section 23 of that Act, in respect of which over 19,400 tenants on Congested Districts Board Estates have already been put upon an annuity basis pending the vesting of their holdings in them on resale.
