Vol. 40 No. 21

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Gárda Síochána Activities.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that the Gárda Síochána from Bangor Erris visited the homes of a number of residents in Geesala and Frishia, Bangor Erris, Co. Mayo, on 29th October last and on other dates during that month, amongst those so visited being Pat Lyndsay, Geesala; Peter McDonagh, Geesala, and John Mullarkey, Frishia, and will the Minister state the reasons for this interference with these men and the nature of the statements taken from them by the Gárda.

The men in question were interviewed by the Gárdai in the ordinary course of police duty. They were not "interfered with."

Would the Minister not answer the latter part of my question?

No, I do not intend to.

Will he give his reasons?

Therefore the Minister refuses to answer the question?

No, I had answered the question.

I think the Minister cannot claim that he has replied to the question which is on the Order Paper and which has been on the Order Paper for the past fortnight.

I have given as full an answer to the question as I intend to give.

With your permission, a Chinn Comhairle, I shall raise this question on the Adjournment unless the Minister is prepared to answer.
