Vol. 43 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fishery Regulations in River Cashen (Kerry).

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he has taken steps to have an inquiry held into the regulations governing fishing in the Cashen River, Co. Kerry, with a view to opening the season earlier than is permitted at present as the fishermen in that locality are entirely dependent on fishing for their existence.

The close seasons are fixed solely with the purpose of preserving the stocks of fish in the rivers which without such protection would be liable to exhaustion. This matter was the subject of enquiry so recently as 1930, and no change of circumstances or new considerations have been adduced which would justify me in involving the several parties concerned in the heavy expenses attending a further enquiry.
