Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Coast Erosion at Glandore.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the coast erosion now taking place in the village of Glandore, County Cork, seriously endangering portion of the village and the property of some of the inhabitants; if he will cause inquiries to be made and the necessary steps to be taken to prevent the erosion which is now taking place by having reasonable precautions taken without delay.

My Department is not empowered to undertake the construction of sea defence works nor has it at its disposal funds which could be advanced by means of grant or loan in aid of such works. Where injury is caused by persons removing beach material from the seashore, the Department has power under the Harbours Act, 1814, to prohibit such removals under penalty.
