Vol. 46 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dingle District Hospital Accommodation.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware that the infirm and aged people coming from the West of Dingle and the Blasket Islands, most of whom speak Irish only, have to be brought to and are accommodated in the Kerry County Home, Killarney, where they are practically isolated from their friends, and seldom or never receive visits; and whether in view of the hardship caused such people he will make an order under the Local Government (Temporary Provisions) Act, 1923, amending the Kerry County Scheme whereby the Dingle District Hospital may be extended to provide the necessary accommodation for such people, thus enabling the friends of such people to visit them and rendering their lives less of a hardship.

The admission to a hospital of persons who are not really cases for hospital treatment would cause general difficulties. If the Deputy will give me particulars by reference to the numbers of persons and the reasons why they cannot remain in their own homes, I will have inquiries made.
