Vol. 48 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballinakill (Leix) Waterworks.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the estimated cost for the provision of a water supply scheme for the town of Ballinakill, County Leix; the average number of men (excluding the clerk of works) employed per week since the work commenced in December last; whether a time limit has been fixed for the completion of the work, and, if so, whether the work will be finished within the specified time, and also whether the work will be carried out at a figure not exceeding the amount named by the engineer in his original estimate.

The estimated cost of the actual works in connection with the Ballinakill Waterworks Scheme was £1,898 1/-. Engineering fees and other incidental expenditure would be additional to this sum. There is no information available as to the average number of men employed each week on the work.

It is understood that in accepting a tender for the work in September last the Board of Health stipulated that the work should be completed by the 31st March, 1933. The Department was informed in May last that the works were complete except for the installation of pumping plant and fountains which were on order, but had not at the time been delivered. It is not anticipated that the cost of the works will exceed the original estimate.
