Vol. 48 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mountrath Old Age Pension Claim.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the cause of the delay in dealing with an old age pension application of Mrs. P.J. Gorman, the Square, Mountrath, County Leix, or if he is now prepared to sanction payment of the amount recommended by the local pensions committee in this case.

An appeal is at present before the Minister for adjudication. Inquiries have been made from the Local Sub-Committee. A decision will be given at the earliest possible date.

I should like to know is the Minister aware that this case is alleged to have been on appeal to the Department before the 1932 Act came into operation? In view of that fact, does not the Minister think that an unreasonable delay in dealing with this case?

The appeal was received on 28th March last, according to my information. If the case were before the Department before the passing of the 1932 Act, it must have been disposed of, and, of course, a new application would have to be made. That application appears to have been made, and will be dealt with, and a decision given as soon as possible.
