Vol. 48 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bounties on Exported Shellfish.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state when he purposes to provide a bounty on exported lobsters and other shell-fish and whether he is aware that the delay in providing the bounty is doing irreparable damage to the trade in County Donegal.

Special attention is being given by the Sea Fisheries Association to the conditions of this industry in Donegal, which are not now and have not in the past been satisfactory. I am not at the moment prepared to promise a bounty on these exports.

Arising out of the Parliamentary Secretary's reply, I should like to know whether or not he has adverted to the last part of the question in which I asked him if he is aware that the delay in providing the bounty is doing irreparable damage to the shell-fish trade in County Donegal. I should like to know whether he has consulted his colleagues, Deputies Blaney, O'Doherty and Brady, as to what the effect has been of his failure to supply this bounty.

(The Parliamentary Secretary did not reply.)

I do not blame them for keeping quite.
