Vol. 49 No. 9

Cork Tramways (Employees' Compensation) Bill, 1933—From the Seanad.

I move:

That the Committee agree with the Seanad in the following amendment:

Section 2. The words and figures "30th day of September" deleted in line 34 and the words and figures "31st day of March" substituted therefor.

The Bill was prepared for the purpose of giving compensation to persons employed on the tramways on the date the tramways ceased to operate and on the assumption that employment on that date was similar to the employment on the date on which the tramways were handed over from the original proprietors to the Irish Omnibus Company. It has since been discovered that certain tramcars became unfit for service shortly prior to the closing down of the service and the services of those engaged in driving them were dispensed with some short time prior to the date on which the service terminated. In order to bring those people in this change in the critical date is necessary.

Question agreed to.

Agreement with Seanad amendment reported. Message to be sent to the Seanad accordingly.
