Vol. 49 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Supplies of Metal Rainwater Goods.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that supplies of metal rainwater goods are not available from Saorstát sources of supply and as a result of this shortage building operations are being delayed, and if he will take such steps as may be necessary to make supplies of these goods available to builders' suppliers without delay.

At the moment Saorstát manufacturers are not in a position to supply our total requirements in the matter of rainwater goods. Where definite evidence is produced that home-manufactured goods of this type are not available licences are being issued for free importation. The question of the measures necessary to increase the supply of such goods is at present being considered.

Am I to understand from the Minister's reply that any person desiring to secure supplies of metal rainwater goods will get a licence to import them duty free from foreign sources?

That is the sense of the answer.

It is very carefully guarded.
