Vol. 50 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dáil Eireann Loan Contributions.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state when payment of a subscription of £5 to the Dáil Eireann Loan will be made to Mr. Daniel Healy, of Templebryan, Clonakilty, but who was resident in Knocksgagh, Lyre, Clonakilty, at the time the amount was subscribed.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state when payment of a subscription of £5 to the Dáil Eireann Loan will be made to the representatives of the late Mr. James Healy, of Templebryan, Clonakilty.

I propose to answer questions 12 and 13 together. No satisfactory evidence has been furnished to my Department that the sums in question were subscribed to the Dáil Eireann Internal Loan, and in the absence of such evidence I am unable to authorise repayment.

Will the Minister inform us whether statements from the collectors have reached his Department to the effect that the money was collected by them and sent to the Dáil Bonds Department?

These collectors were not able to furnish receipts from the persons from whom they claim to have handed in the moneys.

The Minister has statements from the collectors that the money was collected and that no receipts were issued at that time. In the circumstances would not a statement by the collectors be sufficient?

Not in the absence of substantial evidence that the money was paid.

What does the Minister mean by "substantial evidence"?

Corroborative testimony of their statements.

If we can get the collectors to make affidavits that the money was collected will the Minister consider that?
