Vol. 50 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Old Age Pension Claim.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that James Condon, Ballycarrane, Emly, whose claim to an old age pension was refused on the grounds of means, has now completed a fresh application; if he is further aware that the evidence of two responsible people can be got per affidavit that this small farmer handed over the proceeds of his holding, which he sold, to his son, and has now nothing whatever to live on, and if, in view of these facts, he will see that the pension is granted together with the arrears that have accrued to date.

I am not aware that James Condon has made a fresh application for an old age pension. I have no functions in old age pension cases unless such as come before me on appeal from a decision of the local subcommittee. As there is no appeal at present before me in this case. I am not in a position to reply to the other points raised in the Deputy's question.
