Vol. 50 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - “Grow More Wheat” Stamp on Letters.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state approximately what proportion of the letters delivered annually in the Saorstát are delivered to addresses in rural areas; and if he can state whether the stamping of the "grow more wheat" slogan on letters, etc., has resulted in any increase in the acreage under wheat, and, if so, to what extent.

Approximately 43 per cent. of the letters delivered in An Saorstát are delivered to addresses in the rural areas. There is no information in my Department which would enable me to reply to the latter part of the question.

Would it not be more appropriate to deface the stamps with something like "Guinness is good for you," rather than such slogans as "grow more wheat," and so on?

It would be better for the Deputy to support his own Party.

Do you want us to grow wheat on the tramway lines?
