Vol. 51 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Conditions in Ballinacargy.

asked the Minister for Finance whether a resolution was forwarded to him on the 29th January, 1934, directing his attention to the condition of a section of working class people in the district of Ballinacargy, County Westmeath, and, if so, if he will state what action has been taken regarding the circumstances referred to in the resolution.

The resolution referred to was duly received by the President on 31st January, 1934, and at his direction copies of it and of the covering letter were transmitted on the 1st February to the Minister for Local Government and Public Health, the Minister for Industry and Commerce, and to the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Finance. The Westmeath County Council were notified in December, 1933, that a grant for the relief of unemployment would be made available for road works in the county and the grant was duly sanctioned on the 20th February last. The scheme now submitted by the county council contains due provision for the Ballinacargy area, and the works will be put in hands at an early date.
