Vol. 52 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Turf Transport Rates.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state whether he has arranged with the railway companies to carry turf to Dublin at special rates, and, if so, whether he will state what rate or rates have been so arranged.

I would refer the Deputy to the Uniform Rate (Peat Fuel) Order made on the 8th July, 1933, in pursuance of Section 12 of the Railways Act, 1933.

The effect of this Order is to enable a flat rate to be fixed by the Railway Tribunal for the carriage of peat by the Great Southern Railways Company.

The Railway Tribunal have fixed a flat rate of 6/- per ton, and it is understood that the same rate has been voluntarily adopted by the other railways operating in the Saorstát.
