Vol. 55 No. 1

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Proclamation of an Organisation.

asked the President whether in view of recent events the Executive Council will now consider making an order under the Constitution (Amendment No. 17) Act, 1931, declaring the organisation known as the Irish Republican Army to be an unlawful association.

Any action that may be necessary for the maintenance of public order will be taken in regard to the Irish Republican Army and other military or semi-military organisations, but it is not the opinion of the Executive Council that the necessity has arisen for the course suggested in the question.

Arising out of the President's answer, is he aware that a large part—perhaps the greater part— of the strength of such organisations is derived from the belief that in their hearts the majority of the Fianna Fáil Party approve of their existence?

That is a belief that, if it exists, is without any foundation.

More insinuations.
