Vol. 55 No. 1

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Damage to Wexford Road.

asked the Minister for Lands whether in view of the serious damage being done to the road through Camolin Park, County Wexford, by timber haulage in connection with the Forestry Department, and the fact that the Wexford County Council, although not responsible for its upkeep, have signified their willingness to contribute towards remaking this road, he will be prepared to make a substantial increase in the allocation offered by his Department for this very urgent and necessary work.

The Land Commission have informed the Wexford County Council that they are prepared to contribute a sum of £500 towards the proposed road through Camolin Park, provided it is reconstructed and maintained by the County Council, and that a sum of not less than £1,000 in all, including the Land Commission contribution, is spent on its reconstruction. £500 is the maximum sum that the Land Commission are prepared to contribute towards the cost of the proposed work, which would take place on lands vested in purchasers under the Land Purchase Acts as far back as 25 years ago. The road can, therefore, be remade at any time if the Wexford County Council are, as stated, willing to contribute substantially towards the cost of the work.
