Vol. 55 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Blarney Sewerage Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that a sewerage scheme was passed by the local authorities concerned for the village of Blarney, Co. Cork, some years ago, towards the cost of which a Government grant of 50 per cent. of the cost of the scheme was asked by the board of health at that time, who were offered only 33? per cent. of the cost, and that the scheme as a consequence was not then proceeded with; further, if he is aware that the present board of health has also passed the scheme and have asked for a Government grant of 50 per cent.; whether any plans in this connection have been submitted by the engineer of the Cork County Board of Health to his Department, and, if so, when and with what result.

As regards the first part of the question a sewerage scheme was proposed by the board of public health in 1932 but upon consideration of a report made by the board's engineer at that time the board of health decided to take no further steps in the matter. An application for a grant of 50 per cent. of the cost was made. No grant was allocated.

As regards the latter part of the question an order was made by the board of health in December last that the plans be prepared and submitted to the Department. No plans have yet been received.
