Vol. 55 No. 8

Written Answer. - Collection of Land Annuities.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the amounts of land purchase annuities (a) collected, and (b) uncollected in respect of (1) the May-June gale, and (2) the November-December gale of 1934 as at the 17th February, 1935; and if he will state what amounts were in arrears as at that date in respect of the November-December gale of 1933.

The aggregate amount of revised annuities paid in respect of the 1st November-1st December, 1933, and 1st May-1st June, 1934, gales at 31st January, 1935, the last date to which the accounts have been completed, was £1,842,463, and the aggregate amount in arrears at the same date was £474,622.

The amount of revised annuities paid at 31st January, 1935, in respect of the 1st November-1st December gale was £440,881, and the amount in arrear £710,817.

Since the 31st January, 1935, some £300,000 have been collected in respect of all gales and the arrears correspondingly reduced.

The accounts of the Land Commission are not kept in a manner to enable the other figures asked for in the Deputy's question to be readily given and their compilation would involve the expenditure of time and labour which would not appear to be justifiable.
